Safe Sales Still Going Strong Amidst Recession

January 24th, 2012

It’s been quite awhile since our last news post. We’ve been busy revamping the website and making it easier for you to find what you need. If you need help navigating through our main homepage, please check out our post below. It’s a step-by-step tutorial on the key features and how to better search for what you’re looking for.

Safe sales are still striving among the recession in this country. Finding a job is still hard to come by and many people are struggling to make a decent living. It’s no wonder why there are still high rates of theft and burglary happening all over the nation. As we draw closer to the Presidential election this year, people are looking towards the future, hoping we can progress and improve the state of the economy. Many people want to see more jobs and a boost in sales for businesses. Until then, many people are taking things into their own hands and protecting their assets.

A theft that occurred almost two years ago reminded Saleem Hussain to always protect and secure your valuables, no matter where you are. His Tampa home was raided by thieves, which they stole a massive amount of his family’s jewelry brought from India. “When I came in, all the drawers were open, all the pouches were empty,” he said, “It was chaos, it was a big loss. It was almost $200,000 in jewelry; the insurance paid me, what, $25,000?”

Like many victims of theft, Saleem learned the hard way. “I didn’t have the safe, so that was the biggest mistake.” Now people are looking into purchasing a safe as a means to protect their valuables not only from theft, but also from fires. Companies from all over the nation are seeing a rise in sales and record profits regardless of the poor economy. An owner that sells safes in Tampa, Ed Jurewicz (Action Lock and Safe), explains “this year, we’ve doubled in sales.” He has been in the safe business for almost 40 years.

MESA MFS80E U.L. Classified Safe - Class 350 - 1 Hour Fire Rating

As a safe and security company, it almost seems like a rising movement, people are more comfortable and confident in protecting their valuables themselves. They’re taking more out from the banks and taking their assets home. Jurewicz further adds that, “some of them are telling me they’re scared of the bank. They’re not sure if one day they’ll come to the bank and the bank will be closed, so there’s this uneasiness that’s going on here in Tampa.”

He also recommends buying quality heavy-duty safes that is heavy in weight and comes with a high quality secure lock. He opposes people buying cheap small safes, and we couldn’t agree more. “That is probably the worst thing you can do because it becomes a target, it becomes a place where when the thief runs through the house, they go right for the master bedroom closet and they see the safe, they pick it up and run,” he says. You can even keep your old safe or a cheap safe to be used as a decoy.

Some safes have the ability to stay hidden and concealed from intruders.  Hidden safes can store and keep your valuables safe in the convenience of your home, keeping your family assets safe from theft. Check out the video and interview with the theft victim below.

Home Safes Becoming A Necessary Household Item

November 15th, 2011

With the state of the economy still at a halt and the protests around the Nation regarding “Occupy Wall Street,” many people are relying to keep their earnings and funds in the convenience of their own home. With banks going out of business and other banks pushing additional fees to stay alive, it’s no wonder why people trust themselves to keep their assets safe. That’s why more people are purchasing home safes as a means of protection, storage and accessibility. Home safes are a necessity for every household that provides security, privacy and convenience.

There is a full spectrum of different safes that serve diverse roles. It’s important to choose the right safe for your home. Some safes offer a variety of security features, while others provide the basic functions; it all depends on what you are looking for and what type of valuables you intend on storing.

The most suitable home safes in the market today are burglary and fire safes. These types of safes offer anti-theft protection in addition to fire resistant material to hold off against extremely high temperatures of heat. You also have to keep in mind that each safe contains a different level of fire protection. All burglary and fire safes have a specific level of temperature it’s able to withstand and only a limited amount of time. The period of time that each safe can endure at the highest temperature capable is either 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Before purchasing a safe, first have an idea about what you need. Do you want fire protection? Do you want the best possible protection against burglary? What type of safe lock should I get? What’s my budget? These are only a few of the common questions that always come to mind.  If you plan on storing expensive watches, jewelry, large amounts of cash, passports, collectibles and other rare items, then you must invest in a safe that can provide more than adequate protection. It doesn’t make any sense investing in a plastic safe just because it’s cheap and affordable. Plastic safes can be broken into in a matter of seconds. It doesn’t take an expert or professional burglar to get into a plastic safe. Storing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and priceless items inside a safe that is worth less than $50 dollars is just foolish. That’s why saving up for a safe that offers strength, durability and resilience can pay dividends in providing you the protection and peace of mind you deserve.

Other types of home safes are wall and floor safes. Wall and floor safes have been one of the best selling and most popular types of safes in the industry for years. You may have seen movies and television shows where wall safes are kept behind a picture frame, painting or bookshelf, keeping it hidden from thieves and intruders. The same can be said with floor safes, staying hidden underneath a rug, bed or office table. They are such a popular commodity because these hidden safes offer not only protection against theft, but are concealed and disguised. Most wall safes and floor safes offer just the right amount of storage space if you plan on storing small valuables such as jewelry, cash or passports. Another nifty feature about wall and floor safes is aside from being out in the open, they also serve as great protection against fires. Since these safes are encased around the concrete wall or floor, the surrounded area in which they are built into provides an extra barrier of protection.

Invest in a safe that exceeds your needs and expectations. Higher-end safes can be out of your price-range, but worth it in the long run. Your valuables are usually worth a whole lot more than the safe itself, so investing in a safe that can keep your valuables from being stolen or lost is an investment well worth it. Like the saying goes, “you get what you paid for.”

Here are a couple suggestions from us to help you get started!

The AMSEC AM Series Home Security Safe Model AM3020 offers the basic features you want from a safe and more. The safe has a 30-minute fire rating being able to withstand 1200°F to protect your personal belongings from heat. The body of the safe is constructed of 12 gauge solid steel. This particular model has a 3-way bolt work with 5 total active bolts. The diameters of the chrome-plated steel locking bolts are a massive 1 ¼’’ that drive into the body of the safe, securing it very tight to prevent attempts at prying it open. The locking mechanism is a U.L.  Listed Group II combination lock. Preferred electronic lock is also available. The safe also comes with multiple shelves and 4 pre-cut anchor holes with mounting hardware included. What more can you ask for? A safe meant for the home, but constructed to deliver tremendous protection. Not to mention the safe is California Justice Approved and features a Mercury Class I Fire Rating all for less than $800.

Then we have the MBF3820E Burglary & Fire Safe from MESA. The MBF3820E offers protection from theft and fires. It is also larger compared to the model above with exterior dimensions of 40’’ x 22’’ x 22’’. What makes this safe one of the top safes from the MESA line is that it has been tested thoroughly for quality and inspection. First off, this safe carries a two-hour fire rating tested under extreme temperatures of heat of up to 1830°F. Afterwards, the safe is immediately dropped from a height of 30 feet and then reheated again for another 45 minutes. You can either choose an electronic or combination lock for the locking mechanism. The safe comes with thick diameter locking bolts and heavy-duty hinges that prevent any burglar from breaking it off. The safe weighs just less than 300 pounds making it easy for you to install in your home, but provides more than enough weight against thieves from easily carrying it off. One of the most popular burglary and fire safes that provide plenty of storage space for larger items all under $900.

October is Fire Safety & Prevention Month

October 10th, 2011

As a provider of security and safety supplies, we acknowledge the importance of Fire Safety and Prevention month. We want you to become more aware and acquainted to many of the fire safety measures. Even though some places are more prone to fire dangers such as warm climate areas in Texas, Arizona and Southern California, fires can happen anytime, anywhere.  Whether you leave your stove on or a gas leak in your home, they can happen wherever you are unexpectedly. Not only can fires happen in your home, they can also happen at school or work. That’s why knowing the extra safety precautions to prevent and save you from fires is of the utmost importance.

When you’re inside a building, it is necessary that you have an escape plan in case of a fire emergency. Make sure you that there are at least two different routes with which you can exit the building. Always have a leader or someone who is assigned to help in case of a fire emergency to direct and help those in need. You need someone to keep everyone calm and composed so that everyone leaves the vicinity in a timely manner instead of scattering around in panic. Have one person call 911 to report the fire. You should have an assigned meeting area to keep track of every individual in the building as people leave. This will make it easier to find out who is still in the building and who is safe outside. Taking roll call is the best way to keep track of people.

If you don’t have a smoke detector in your home, then you should immediately buy and install one. The Fire Department recommends installing the smoke detectors usually in the hallway and bedrooms of your home. When purchasing a smoke detector, make sure that it has the Underwriter’s Laboratories seal that ensures it has been tested and approved for quality and performance. Many homes are already installed with smoke detectors, but you’ll be surprised to how many of them actually don’t work. Why is that? It’s because sometimes we forget to change the battery and no longer operates. Remember to always check and test your smoke detectors every week. You never know when an unexpected fire will occur while you are asleep in bed, in the front lawn or backyard.

Here are a couple of other fire safety measures that we should pay close attention to:

  • Be Prepared and Ready. The simple safety measures can save your life.
    • Install and make sure that you have a smoke detector in all rooms, hallways, and other important areas of your home.
    • At least test them every week or every month to make sure they work properly.
    • Have a safety plan for getting in and out of the building. Fire drills are very important, especially if you have children.
  • Smoke is also an eminent danger!
    • We always think about the fires, but smoke is usually the first killer when it comes to fire dangers.
    • Smoke sucks all the oxygen from the air causing you to pass out and leave you vulnerable.
    • Smoke contains poison gases and can get extremely hot very quickly.
    • Smoke is sneaky and usually won’t even know until its too late, which is why having a smoke detector is needed for every home.
  • Preventing Fires
    • When cooking in the kitchen, never leave it unattended. If you do need to leave, make sure you keep the heat low on the stove and return as soon as possible.
    • If you smoke cigarettes, first run water over them before you dump them into the trash. Keep the area clean of any dropped cigarettes; they can potentially start a fire.
    • When lighting candles, always have an adult do it and blow it out. Make sure you have candles that won’t fall and are contained in a fireproof holder. Always place candles away from children, pets and out of reach where it might fall and cause a fire.
    • Keep any flammable items such as chemicals, sprays, matches or lighters in a safe and secure place.

Burglary Statistics: By The Numbers

September 26th, 2011

We’ve posted some very haunting stories and articles about burglaries that happen around the United States. We try to keep everyone informed of the dangers and thefts that occur. We know that everyday there is some type of theft or burglary happening to someone whether it is in broad daylight or late at night. We make sure everyone is aware of their surroundings and that you can never be too safe. Burglaries take place when you least expect it, which is why being prepared beforehand can save you the hassle and stress. Sometimes stories or articles aren’t enough to persuade people into investing in a high security surveillance system or high quality safes. Most of the time people will take that risk in being unprepared, but once they become a victim to theft or robbery, they’ll regret it and start investing.

Why learn the hard way and take that risk in becoming a victim to theft? Why not save yourself the money, stress and trouble of losing all your valuable items? Sometimes it isn’t even the money or jewelry that are the most valuable. Some valuables are irreplaceable like collectibles, family photos or other rare items. You also don’t want to lose sensitive information such as passports; social security, insurance or deeds that can be extremely difficult to replace and even worse, have your identity stolen. We never really discussed statistics or numbers when it came to how many burglaries actually happen within the United States every year. Instead of trying to research and look up the statistics, our good friends at Authority Safes have created an awesome graphic/chart that proves and clarifies some interesting burglary statistics in the United States.

The illustration and statistics chart shows that from reports by the FBI, there are approximately 2,222,196 burglaries that occur annually in the United States! That means if you spread the amount of burglaries evenly over 365 days, about over 6,000 burglaries occur every day.  That statistic alone is astonishing and you usually never realize its significance until you see the facts. Not only does this awesome graphic explain and break down the significance of burglaries that happen everyday, but it provides interesting comparisons too. One of the tidbits on the graphic says that “the average person reads at approximately 300 words per minute; as you’ve been reading, another home was just burglarized.” Just reading that statement can give you the goose bumps. It’s pretty ridiculous how many burglaries do occur annually and it gives you a better understanding of the bigger picture. According to the chart the most common items that have been stolen are cash, jewelry, firearms, electronics and silver. These are usually what most residential homes hide and store in their bedrooms. By that fact alone, you can see how important it is to keep your valuables safe. Thieves have only one thing on their mind, and it’s usually either cash or valuables that they can sell for more money. The time is now to start protecting your belongings and be prepared when the unexpected happens.
