Thieves Raid Home Stealing Over $25,000 Worth of Valuables

August 5th, 2011

In the city of Bradenton, Florida a recent burglary has the local towns people worried and nervous as the police are investigating a Palmetto home that was broken into. The burglars stole a 700-pound gun safe that stored a plethora of guns that totaled to 23 different firearms. They also stole a 50-pound safe that was even anchored to a wall, reported by the Sherriff.

A more frightening fact is that the burglars were able to break into the home, raid the area and take two safes without being seen by anyone or creating any suspicion. That must be startling for the neighborhood and those that live close by. The thieves didn’t use any sophisticated techniques or tools to break into the home. They did it the old fashion way, by smashing the front window of the home. It’s surprising to hear that because most burglars would go through the backyard where they would be less exposed to the neighbors.

Once the robbers gained entry inside, it led them into the home office. They raided the office room and two bedrooms where they then stole the two safes that contained multiple firearms. The victim of the burglary was a member of the Manatee Gun Club and told the police that he had no clue who would do such a thing.  The heavy-duty and hefty gun safe held 23 guns that valued at an estimated worth of $15,000. The smaller 50-pound safe that was attached securely on to the wall contained about $7,000 in cash, $3,000 in jewelry and coins and $3,000 in savings bonds. All in all, the total amount that was stolen in valuables was $28,000. That doesn’t even include the damages that were done to the home and the value of the safes.

The deputies went around the neighborhood asking if anyone had seen any suspicious activity in the area, but no one had seen anything. With that being said, the deputies don’t have any suspects or witnesses to go by. We hope that any evidence presents itself that can lead to these suspects. Any person or group of people that breaks into a home doesn’t have the greatest intentions. Even worse, the thieves stole a horde of firearms that could be an even greater threat when choosing their next home to burglarize. Although they took in a large amount of cash and jewelry, they will be coming back for more to target another innocent victim.

Unsolved Mystery: Two Homes Raided & Guns Stolen

July 26th, 2011

An unsolved mystery is still being investigated as two intense and terrifying home raids occurred during the summer of 2009. Two homes were raided where the armed suspects tied up and threatened families and stole their firearms. The two incidents are believed to be linked, as both occurrences were very similar. Police are still hoping that anyone with any bit of information can provide clues or hints on their investigations.

One of the incidents happened to a family of five at Hampton Park. The family had three children between the ages of 12 through 15. The family was tied up with electrical tape and was even held at gunpoint by at least four different men. The incident occurred at about 8:45pm on June 3rd.

The 47-year-old father of three was forced to open his gun safe and the suspects ran off with five firearms that were worth about $3,000. Ever since that horrifying incident, he told the crime investigation’s unit that it has made a lasting impact on his family. “The incident has had a long-term impact on the family’s sense of security, which no one should be subjected to when it comes to living in their own home,” Det-Sgt Rumble said.

After that incident occurred, another similar occurrence happened just six weeks later on August 19th. The incident happened around the same time at 9pm as the 36-year-old man was forced to open up his safe while his 32-year-old wife who is several months pregnant was tied up. Two toddlers were also inside the house during the time. The man was led to his gun safe. The male victim tried to defend himself, but was restrained by the suspects as they forced him to fork up 11 of his treasured firearms in addition to other cherished belongings. The total worth of all the valuables that were stolen from the victim was more than $25,000.

Det-Sgt Rumble mentioned that both the male victims had ties to the Sporting Shooters Pistol Club, which is based in Springvale. The president of the Pistol Club, Mark Penberthy said that many folks were surprised and stunned by the incidents towards its members that other members of the club have invested and enhanced their own home security to take extra measures against burglary and theft.

“All our shooters keep their guns in safes, unloaded, and it’s ironic, as law-abiding shooters, they were completely defenseless in these situations,” Mr. Penberthy said. “Some of our members went out and bought video surveillance systems and commercial safes to heighten security around their homes. We use FBI standard triple-encryption on our membership lists to keep them secure because our concern that shooters can become a target.”

It’s very haunting and frightening that not only are the members of the club are victims to such intimidating crimes, but also their families are being threatened and targeted. It’s already nerve-racking finding someone break into your home, but having to be held up at gunpoint can be emotionally and mentally grueling. Imagine these families who could have lost their lives and were absolutely helpless despite having the right protection to secure their firearms. It will haunt them forever until these suspects are caught and arrested. It leaves a mental scar and could keep you up at night, paranoid that someone will come after you. That’s why you can never be too safe and you have to become aware of your surroundings. Here at Security Base, we’re always concerned not only about the safety and protection of your products, but also yourselves. You never know when an incident like this can happen to you.

Eight Suspects Arrested In Massive Jewelry Heist

June 16th, 2011

In the city of South Beach, Florida, Law Enforcement announced Wednesday that they have arrested a group of suspects who stole over $6 million in jewelry through the past 2 years. Eight South Florida residents are now charged for their participation in where they burglarized jewelry stores and pawnshops in six different states that included Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Connecticut.

The suspects are professional and expert burglars who would cut holes at the roof of the stores and then proceed to disable alarms and the surveillance systems. Then they would use torches to gain access inside the safe, the authorities said. The suspects were: Jose Betancourt, 43; Yenier Cardentey, 31; Juan Collado-Miranda, 44; Juan Manresa-Leyva, 411; Abelardo Pena-Cardentey, 33; Maykel Roque, 27; Tony Sanchez, 26; and Yaubri Suarez, 30.

The suspects are now in custody and were arrested between May 19th and May 24th.  According to the FDLE, they were charged with racketeering and conspiracy to commit racketeering.   To help with the investigation, it took over several law enforcement agencies. “The Office of Statewide Prosecution and FDLE worked on this investigation for nearly two years with law enforcement throughout the Eastern United States,” stated Attorney General Pam Bondi in a written statement. “The large-scale cooperation among the various law enforcement agencies was a vast undertaking that will result in justice for the victims of these burglaries.”

It’s reassuring to know that these thieves have finally been caught.  We’ve posted many burglaries that totaled up to over $100,000 in stolen goods, but this one takes the cake. That is large amount of money, and for these suspects to go unnoticed for 2 years really opens up our eyes that there are still people out there who will take these types of risks, especially in the state of our economy. They definitely knew what they were doing and how to approach every store they raided. It’s a scary thought to know that there are thieves like them prowling the streets waiting to scavenge up your hard earned profits or inventory. The suspects weren’t raiding or burglarizing just one area; they went from state to state, where they were never caught until now. It’s like something you would see out of a movie. You never truly realize or think that this type of criminal activity can happen to you, but they certainly can. It’s wise to prepare for the worse especially if you have valuables such as expensive jewelry and cash.

Even though it took police reinforcement 2 years to find the suspects, the saying goes “what comes around goes around.” They’ve had a short taste of living the luxury life, but will now have to pay for the consequences.  You can never be too safe, no matter where you live. Make sure you have the necessary protection and security. Always keep in mind, “it’s better safe, than sorry.”

Thieves Raid Thrift Store Stealing $2,500 From Safe

June 14th, 2011

One of the most common places that thieves raid and burglarize are the common convenience or liquor stores. In York, Maine the police are investigating a theft that happened this past weekend. A safe was stolen that contained $2,500 in cash plus $400 in credit card receipts from the Leeward Landing Thrift Store.

According to Sgt. Thomas Cryan, he believes that the burglary happened either the night of June 11th or the early morning of June 12th. President of Leeward Industries Inc., Robert Werner, believes that the thieves were able to examine the thrift store while they were open during business hours on Saturday. During their time in the store, they managed to unlock a window. His mother, the manager of the store, Cheryl Werner arrived on Sunday morning only to discover that the window screen was ripped open after it was unlocked. Rob says that the employees consistently check to make sure that the windows are locked before leaving for the night.

Rob said, “Saturday was a particularly crazy day at the thrift store. We believe someone unlocked the window, came back later, sliced the screen, climbed in through the window, went in and rummaged through the store a bit. The money was in a safe bolted on the floor. They ripped the safe off the floor.” He added, “It’s horrible to steal from a charity.” That money was not only towards profits to the thrift store, but Leeward Landing donates to seven other York County food pantries. From their earnings they donate about $4,000 to $5,000 every month.

The store also has tenants who live upstairs above the thrift store. He believes that the theft had to have taken place during after business hours and before the tenants arrived home at 9 P.M. “It was not a quiet operation,” Rob said. “Tools were needed to get the safe off the floor.” Employees also noticed that items were knocked over in the store. The tenants reported that they did not hear anything during the theft, which is why Rob believes it had to happen between closing of the store and the tenants’ arrival.

In addition to the safe being bolted down it was also not in a visible area. He started using safes at three of its other stores within the last 2 months. Burglaries like these occur on a daily basis, yet we always believe that we’ll never become a victim. Rob made sure that investing in a safe protected the store’s profits, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to deter the thieves. Sometimes you have to take even bigger precautions to protect your safe. First, you need a high quality safe. You’ll become attracted to the cheap price of some safes and sure they can protect your valuables, but as the saying goes, “you get what you paid for.” If you’re going to protect your valuables and store a significant amount of cash, you need to invest in a durable and strong safe particularly made out of steel. There are many manufacturers out there that have dedicated their efforts in creating an all steel and high security safes.

You have to make sure your store has the necessary security too, not just protecting your cash. Any professional burglar or thief knows where to look. For any cash handling business, it’s a necessity to have surveillance cameras, alarms and other means of security to protect your valuables. It’s a shame that this particular thrift store had to be burglarized because that money was also going to charity.
